Welcome to the Science Department.
KS3 Science is taught in year 7, 8 and 9 through a series of units covering aspects of biology, chemistry and physics. These units include:
Year 7: Working in a Laboratory, Cells, Tissues and Organs, Forces and Speed, Reproduction
Year 8: Keeping Healthy, Disease, Atoms elements and Compounds, Magnetism, Space
Year 9: Chemical Reaction, Drugs and Behaviour, Geology, Humans and the Environment
Most students study AQA Core Science GCSE in year 10 and then go on to study Additional Science GCSE in year 11
Some students study AQA Triple Science GCSE over two years leading to a three full GCSEs, one in Chemistry, one in Biology and one in Physics.
Some students study Edexcel BTEC Applied Science. This is completed over two years and is equivalent to one GCSE.
Home learning is set weekly in KS3 and twice weekly for GCSE students. BTEC students receive one piece of home learning per week
Science club runs at different times over the year and includes activities such as building rockets and making bath bombs. The club is geared towards year 7 and pupils are kept informed through the college bulletin.
