Year 7 Debating Competition

Year 7 Debating Competition

During this term Year 7 have been practising their oracy skills to compete in a debating competition. They have spent time during registration and in CPSHE lessons to work on improving their speaking skills. Pupils have focused on using alternatives to the ‘banned’ words, using more sophisticated vocabulary and becoming more confident in their speaking and listening skills.

The 12 finalists were:

T – Chidimma Anyakora &Charlie Hibbs

H – Amber Jones & Otis Wedderburn

O – Ciara Marsland & Adam Carter

 Jokotola Adenuga & Bobby Bayley

A – Katie Lohan & Taylor Riley

S – Jimmy Moulton & Liam Hackney

This is an amazing achievement. All of Year 7 participated in the debating competition held on the 17th of July. All pupils showed their enthusiasm by cheering on their form representatives and by behaving in a positive manner to support each other.

Well done to all of Year 7 for taking part in a great competition. Congratulations to the runners up Taylor Riley from 7A and Ciara Marsland from 7O, also to Jokotola Adenuga from 7M for becoming St. Thomas More’s Year 7 debating champion.
