Mancunian Legend Tony Walsh Visits

The Mancunian Legend Tony Walsh Inspires St Thomas More Students.
On Wednesday the 22nd of November the college welcomed the acclaimed Mancunian poet Tony Walsh for a full day of workshops and assemblies.

Tony, who famously performed his poem 'This is the Place' in Albert Square following May's tragic terror attack at the Manchester Arena, spoke to all year groups about his experiences in the six months since the attack, and his continuing amazement at the power of his words to inspire millions at home and around the world.

His visit also had a particularly poignant local connection as Tony was born on Acre street, just across the road from the school gates, and had frequently been chased off the school playing fields by angry STM teachers in his youth!
During the day, Tony also conducted a series of inspirational writing workshops with small groups of students and was presented with a book containing student artworks created in response to his poem.

Both staff and students hugely enjoyed Tony's visit, and we look forward to welcoming him back in the future!
