SUPPORTING PUPILS AT SCHOOL WITH MEDICAL CONDITIONS

Pupils in school with medical conditions are supported so they have full access to education, including school trips and physical education.
We consult health and social care professionals, pupils and parents to ensure that the needs of children with medical conditions are effectively supported. We do this in a number of ways:
Individual healthcare plans
Risk assessments
Personal emergency evacuation plans for pupils with reduced mobility
‘M’ codes placed in pupils’ logbooks
A First Aid team comprising twenty members of staff. Training and qualification is completed through St John Ambulance and renewed every three years
Two defibrillators on site; one located in the main office and one in the PE department
Two emergency inhalers located in the main office
Secure facility for storage of medication
Medication administration register
A medical coordinator qualified in ‘Managing Medication in Schools and Childcare Settings’ OCN accredited (equivalent NVQ Level 2)
Our Medical Policy for supporting pupils with medical conditions is reviewed annually.

The health and well-being of all our students is of paramount importance. We ask parents and carers to keep us informed of any change to their child's medical or mental health condition. This includes newly prescribed medication or changes to existing medication.
